Alan Dove, Ph.D.

Me, flying blindly.

I am a science journalist, podcaster, blogger, and editor who lives in western Massachusetts. This is my personal site, and because I'm a freelancer I can say that the opinions expressed here are exactly the opinions of my employer. They are not, however, the opinions of the publications and organizations that have hired me as a contractor, which include Science, various journals in the Nature empire, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Medical Association, and pretty much anyone else who'll pay me to report on topics or meetings that interest me. I also co-host the weekly podcast "This Week in Virology."

If you only want to read my serious blog and not all the other nonsense I post online, go sample The Turbid Plaque.

If you'd prefer the off-hours version, full of silly side projects and ramblings, see my personal blog. You can also see me on YouTube, where I post new videos very infrequently, and Twitter, where I generate a steady stream of one-liners.

I grew up in Maryland and have lived in New York City, Philadelphia, and New Haven at various times. I did my undergraduate work at Towson State University in Maryland, and received a Ph.D. in microbiology from Columbia University in New York.
